is originally from Naples and a graduate of the Accademia d’Arte Drammatica. She has worked with the most illustrious theatre directors, such as Luca Ronconi, Toni Servillo and Carlo Cecchi. In 1995 she starred in the film L’amore molesto, directed by Mario Mortone and adapted from the novel by the same name written by Elena Ferrante – a role for which she won the Nastro d’Argento and the David di Donatello. The films she has appeared in include Il Caimano by Nanni Moretti (2006), Mio fratello è figlio unico by Daniele Lucchetti, Il Divo by Paolo Sorrentino (2008). Published in audiobook format by Emons edizioni (2015), L’amica geniale is the first of the four-book-series by Elena Ferrante, which includes three other novels, also read by Anna Bonaiuto: Storia del nuovo cognome, Storia di chi fugge e di chi resta, Storia della bambina perduta.
