Umberto Pasti
Umberto Pasti has written about art, society and literature for Italian and foreign newspapers. He makes gardens in Europe and Morocco. His latest garden, to which the artist Yto Barrada has dedicated a video called The Botanist (2007) is a challenge: to turn a dune of sand on the Atlantic into a refuge for all the menaced species in northern Morocco. He’s published two novels on the subject of botanic obsession: L’età fiorita (2000) and L’Accademia del dottor Pastiche (2008), both for Il Saggiatore. He is finishing a pamphlet on gardening entitled Giardini e no (“Gardens and not gardens”). He definitely prefers being called “gardener” than “garden designer”.
