Danilo Mainardi

Danilo Mainardi is professor of Behavioural Ecology at the Ca' Foscari University in Venice and is the headmaster of the International School of Ethology at the Ettore Majorana Center in Erice, Sicily. He is honorary president of the Italian Society for the Protection of Birds and a member of the National Academy of Sciences and of the International Ethological Society. His scientific work is currently focussed on ecoethology. He has studied parent-offspring interaction, maternal, paternal and accessory parental (alloparental) roles. In particular he has studied the ontogenesis of the effect of imprinting on the determinism of socio-sexual and alimentary preferences. His most recent books are: Nella mente degli animali (2006) and La bella zoologia (2008) published by Cairo Editore. He contributes to Rai 1 Superquark, Il Corriere della Sera, Il Sole 24 ORE, and to the monthly Airone.
