Sylvie  Coyaud - approfonditaMente, Overheated citizens: environment, truth and priorities

listen to the audio file

In 1965 some American scientists, fearing the gas-increase caused by the greenhouse effect, handed over to President Lyndon Johnson a report in which they suggested some remedies. The President ignored it, but that was also because at the time the forecast of a global warming was too vague. Nowadays it’s more accurate, and almost all governors agree on the necessity of doing something, but disagree on how to do it. It is undeniably difficult to make decisions when the evaluations are discordant and there are so many economic considerations at stake. Having outlined a short survey of the possible scenarios, let’s try and put ourselves in their shoes: what should we do, and how? (lasts about 2 hours and a half).

Sylvie  Coyaud
speaks about scientific research every Monday on Radio Popolare, and contributes on this subject to D La Repubblica, Domenica and Ventiquattro of Il Sole 24 ORE, Golem, and other newspapers. Her most recent books are: Lucciole e stelle (brevi storie di ricerche serie e no) (La Chiocciola, 2006) and an essay on the manipulations of our natural environment, entitled La scomparsa delle api.
