In a minimalistic setting, accompanied by a cherished instrumental ensemble – a quartet featuring guitar, accordion, flute and double bass – Maddalena Crippa, acting as both narrator and singer, recounts episodes of love and courtship and performs songs from the operetta The Merry Widow, lightheartedly evoking the atmospheres of Berlin cabarets and Parisian cafè chantants. Alternating spoken parts, such as fragments of dialogues and monologues from Leo Stein and Victor Léon’s original libretto, with musical numbers, arias and duets, the actress tackles a double performance embodying and lending her extraordinary voice both to the character of Anna Glavari and to prince Danilo.
