Salvatore Sciarrino

Salvatore Sciarrino Salvatore Sciarrino (1947) began composing, untaught, at the age of twelve; his first concert was in 1962. He has written music for the most important theatres, festivals and orchestras in the world. His music has been published by Ricordi (1969- 2004) and, as of 2005, by RAI Trade. He has made recordings with major international labels. Author of numerous librettos of his own works, he has written articles, essays partly collected in Carte da suono (CIDIM - Novecento, 2001), Le figure della musica, da Beethoven a oggi (Ricordi 1998). He has taught at the Conservatories of Milan, Perugia and Florence, and has held master classes. He has also been Artistic Director at the Teatro Comunale, Bologna. Academic at: Santa Cecilia, Fine Arts of Baveria and the Arts (Berlin).Sciarrino has won: the Prince Pierre de Monaco and Premio Internazionale Feltrinelli. He is working on the opera Da gelo a gelo, for completion in 2006.
