Erika Fatland
Erika Fatland (b. 1983 in Haugesund, Norway) achieved her international breakthrough with Sovietistan (2014), for which she was awarded the Norwegian Booksellers’ Prize. She has an M.A. in social anthropology from the University of Oslo and the University of Copenhagen. Earlier works include The Village of Angels. Stories from Beslan (2011) and The Year Without Summer (2012). Her most recent books, The Border. A Journey around Russia (2017) and High. A Journey across the Himalaya (2019) were both shortlisted for Terzani Award and The Edward Standford Travel Book of the Year. In 2021 she won the Kapuściński Award for reportage. Her books are translated into 27 languages. She is currently working on a book about the Portuguese Empire.
