The murder of Matteotti, or on ingratitude
In the tragic case of Matteotti's murder, the subsequent investigation and trial (which resulted in negligible sentences for the actual perpetrators while acquitting all of the instigators and accomplices) offer a scandalous and farcical glimpse behind the scenes of the fascist regime. Right after the murder, Mussolini quickly distanced himself from those collaborators – often his most loyal and earliest supporters – who could be implicated in it. These individuals did not hesitate to compile compromising memoirs and threaten to reveal damaging information if the Duce did not ensure their impunity. This grotesque web of threats and mutual accusations reveals much about the moral character of those young and brilliant protagonists of the fascist "revolution."
Event No. 18 bis, scheduled for Sunday, September 1st, will also be streamed online.
