2019 Programme
Event #29
Filippo Grandi
Refugees’ future
We are no longer able to make peace – increasingly long and fierce wars are forcing thousands of people to flee their homes and countries every day. Others are forced into exile by persecution, discrimination and various forms of violence. Today there are more than 70 million refugees and displaced persons in the world, who often move with economic migrants and other people along routes controlled by traffickers or through conflict zones. Poverty, inequalities and climate change make the situation even more complex. Is it possible to respond to these phenomena in a concrete, organised and respectful way to international law? Is it possible to talk about refugees without the discourse being exploited by politics? Is it possible to find solutions to the forced exodus of millions of people? Does solidarity still exist?
