2018 Programme
Event #36
Mimmo Cuticchio
Duelling marionettes
Through Mimmo Cuticchio’s words, the tales of Roland, Rinaldo and Angelica and the feats of the French paladins are brought back to life in a performance that ranges between registers – from epic to comedy, from drama to fantasy and romance – in a whirlwind of duels, ambushes, incantations, betrayals, couples falling in love, battles and unexpected twists. With his relentless and captivating pace, Mimmo Cuticchio, one of the most authoritative voices in Italian theatre, re-enacts a cunto from the Carolingian cycle, introducing and animating the characters while simultaneously commenting their incredible adventures.
https://www.festivaldellamente.it/it/live-streaming-alessandro-barbero/Mimmo Cuticchio is a trobadour, actor and theatrical director. A direct heir and attentive exegete of the tradition of the Opera dei Pupi, born in Palermo, he continues the work started by his father Giacomo, who opened his first pupi theatre in Palermo in 1933. Mimmo Cuticchio began his activity as a puparo in the 70s with his travelling performances. In 1977 he created the Association Figli d’Arte Cuticchio which, along with his work as a scholar of the ancient art of the cunto, gave way to a path of reinvention of this tradition that would lead to its recognition as part of the Global Heritage, awarded by Unesco. He is the author of Alle armi, cavalieri! (Donzelli, 2017).
