The Argonauts in pursuit of dark matter
Two mysterious identities rule the Universe: dark energy, a completely unknown force that permeates interstellar space, and matter, which in itself is made up for 90% by dark matter, that instruments have never detected. An entire community of physicists – experts in the field of astro-particle physics – is now creating precision instruments to “capture” its signals. So as to avoid the interferences caused by the charged particles produced by the Sun, these experiments have to be carried out in deep underground laboratories. DarkSide, one of the most advanced programs for research on dark matter, will take place in the Gran Sasso underground laboratories, making use of argon extracted from underground deposits and involving more than 350 researchers from Italian and international institutes.
Location change: from Canale Lunense to Piazza Matteotti

He is the author of numerous scientific publications about solar neutrinos, and a scientific publisher. He coordinates the research experiment on dark matter known as DarkSide within the National laboratories of Gran Sasso (L’Aquila) and the project Aria at Monte Sinni in Carbosulcis (Gonnesa, Sardegna). His new book Entità oscure. Viaggio ai limiti dell’Universo will be published by Feltrinelli by the end of August.
