World War I
May 24th: Italy enters the War
What our fathers called the War of ’15-’18 started one year before for the rest of the world. Italy, then, remained neutral, for the Italian government was aware of its weakness. But a party of war immediately arose with the pretext of completing the national community with the freedom of Trento and Trieste. According to interventionists, Italy could not stay out of the war – the winners would have reorganized the world and Italy too. If Italy wanted to be a great power, it had to sit at their table. On may 24th 1915, then, Italy declared war on Austria.
