2018 Programme
Event #34
Matteo Nucci, Davide Livornese
The community of theatre
According to Nietzche’s famous claim, Greek tragedy was born “from the spirit of music”. When, more than 2.500 years ago, the citizens of Athens began filling the bleachers of the Theatre of Dionysus, empathizing with the painful affairs unfolding on stage and allowing themselves to be captivated by the inebriated, orgiastic music of the choir, they ended up creating one of the most extraordinary communal settings ever experienced in the Western world. Accompanied by the words of Matteo Nucci and by the Dionysian songs performed by a group of Greek musicians directed by Davide Livornese, the audience will relive the thrill of this long-lost dimension. A conference-performance that will bring the grand issues of the polis to the foreground, discovering that it is still possible to live an aesthetic experience capable of spurring us towards discussion, exchanges and confrontation: the critical foundations of any community.
