Event #15

Alessandro Barbero

Life and fate: Anna Achmatova

Anna Achmatova told the history of Russia from the Court of the tsars, passing through WWI, the Revolution and Stalinism to Khrushchev Thaw and the beginning of the stagnation of the 1960s. Her poems, at first lyric and intimist, gave voice to the people struck dumb by terror and told what seemed impossible to tell. As she once wrote: “I shared all this with my own people/There, where misfortune had abandoned us.”
